Included in your stay

Every stay includes complimentary access to Middleton Place, a National Historic Landmark featuring 65 acres of formal gardens, living history exhibits, and daily guided tours. Daily guided tours include Beyond the Fields, Guided Garden Tours and Meet the Heritage Breeds.

Guided Garden Tours

Daily on hour 10 am, 11 am, 12 pm, 1 pm & 2 pm 

Discover more about the contributions of Europeans and enslaved Africans and African Americans to Middleton Place on a guided garden walk of American Oldest Landscaped Gardens. Learn about the land, the flora, and stories of the people who designed, created and maintained them.

Middleton Place National Historic Landmark

Staying at The Inn at Middleton Place provides you access to 65 acres of America's oldest landscaped gardens. These formal landscaped gardens were envisioned by Henry Middleton in 1741 and reflect the grand classic style that remained in vogue in Europe and England into the early part of the 18th century.

Beyond the Fields

Daily | 11 am, 12 pm, 2 pm, & 3 pm

Learn about the experiences of the generations of enslaved who lived and worked at Middleton Place. The “Beyond the Fields: Enslavement at Middleton Place” program facilitates a conversation about slavery in American history with stories of brutality, survival, contribution, and perseverance. History once lost is found and brought to life in a relevant way that connects us as Americans.

Garden Market & Nursery

Open daily from 9 am – 5 pm

Browse hundreds of home and garden items, including those handcrafted by the resident blacksmith, cooper, and potter. You’ll also enjoy a collection of products from local and regional artisans – Charleston sweetgrass baskets, accessories, jams and jellies, greeting cards, artworks, and more. Stop into the Garden Market for a snack, beverage, ice cream, lunch, or build your own picnic to enjoy on the Greensward.

The Nursery specializes in more than 50 varieties of plants grown at Middleton Place by a talented team of gardeners and horticulturists. Choose from seedlings taken from the majestic Middleton Oak and Middleton Place Camellias (japonica, sasanqua, sinensis) as well as many other annuals, perennials and herbs. The Museum Shop

Open daily from 10 am – 5 pm

Conveniently located adjacent to visitor parking, The Museum Shop is free to visit for both the community and visitors to Middleton Place. The Shop offers an extensive selection of books on Middleton Place, Charleston and the rich history and culture of South Carolina. Other titles include fine art, gardening and landscape design, architecture, southern recipes and historical fiction. Browse items for both home and garden – from reproduction silver and china to outdoor sculptures. A beautiful array of accessories including floral handbags, scarves, pins, earrings and specialty clothing are also available. Whether you’re looking for a memento of your visit or a special gift, you’ll find something unique for every occasion.

Horseback Riding

Explore Middleton Place from a different perspective. The Middleton Place Equestrian Center offers daily guided trail rides on horseback along the historic land.

Tour the Grounds

General Admission includes access to 65 acres of formal landscaped Gardens, a look at 18th and 19th century plantation life with exhibits, displays, artisans and historic animal breeds in the Stableyards, and parking. Daily guided tours including Beyond the Fields: Enslavement at Middleton Place, Garden Overview and Meet the Historic Breeds are also included in general admission.

Admission is included for guests of The Inn at Middleton Place.

Meet the Heritage Breeds Tours

Daily 11:45 AM | Duration: 30 minutes

A guided tour takes a closer look at the historic livestock breeds at Middleton Place. Learn why the breeds were originally brought here in the 18th and 19th centuries, how each breed contributed to the plantation, and stories about the people who owned and cared for them.

The Lodge

Relax and unwind in our stunning Lodge, a charming space designed for comfort and connection. Curl up by the fireplace with a good book, gather around a board game, or enjoy the sounds of live music drifting through the room. Step outside for a round of yard games, or settle in at the bar to sip a drink. To make evenings extra special, each guest is invited to enjoy a complimentary nightcap, our way of closing the day on a warm and welcoming note.
